Socio-economic future of SA | #BizTrends with Dion Chang (@dionchang)

This week Dion took a slightly different but necessary track for our #TrendsBiz  (as they do @fluxtrends) to explore a more serious topic – socio-economic future of SA. The WEF competitive report was released last month and has largly gone under the the radar. Dion had a look at it from a Flux perspective and combined what we rank best at compared to what we rank lowest at, providing some serious  food for thought (it’s a bit of a bitter pill but the info needs to be put out there).

According to the report South Africa ranks in the lowest group in terms of Education. To put it into perspective Zimbabwe ranks higher than South Africa in terms of education. Considering the majority of our population is made up of youth (referred to as a youth bulge) and that unemployment, labor & corporate relations are so bad, education is a critical socio-economic issue for South Africa. It’s time for our country to not only look at the problem but start instituting changes.
