Collaborative Consumption – a game we all can play | #SayWhatBiz with Dr Sarah Britten | @Anatinus

This week Sarah had a look at the concept of collaborative consumption. Sarah saw Rachel Botsman (@rachelbotsman)  at the Green Building Council Conference last week. In a nut shell collaborative consumption is a concept about sharing more and using less with minimum waste and maximum value.  Instead of owning something you share it with others i.e. a power drill that will sit around and hardly be used – what you want and need is a hole in the wall and not a drill, so people can maximize the benefit of a drill by sharing it rather than owning one. This concept can be applied to an array of different things like office space, holiday homes, car sharing, and even eBay. The concept of EBay is based on you have stuff that you don’t want or need anymore.

There is a gap in the market for new companies to make use of this growing concept and opportunity as it grows in popularity i.e.  setting up a car sharing business – where people don’t have to worry about monthly payments, insurance and maintenance. Giving them the opportunity to only use and pay for a car when they need one.
