Click, watch, engage…

Human beings are so predictable – curiosity always gets the better of us! I loved the concept of this viral video. Whilst watching it I was a bit alarmed by all the unfolding drama but could not stop watching – I wanted to know what would happen and then the Punch Line – awesome. It kept me riveted and after watching it I could not wait to share it with my friends. This is the way of new marketing. Engage me. Entertain me and then let me decide what I want to do with the information. In my case – I shared it with my friends, who shared it with their friends.

We are seeing more and more of this happening and the days of old TV ads are taking a hammering. Now brands are engaging via so many social media platforms and its working for them. Another good example of what a brand does and the service it offers that was done in a very clever and entertaining way was the iProspect YouTube offering on what South Africans searched for online in 2011.

What I found really interesting from this YouTube clip was that only one third of brands in SA are engaging online? Why? And where have you been living? To add insight into the global online market and how people are engaging and using this medium you can take a look at the following latest global survey

Clearly I am not the only brand strategist who is thinking and reporting on the new ways of doing things – industry legend Chris Moerdyk had the following to say earlier today.

Embracing and creatively executing brand messaging today is about entertainment, engagement and allowing the consumer to decide for themselves what to do with the information. If you want to be ahead of the curve or at least on the curve then doing things from a truly interactive and engaging way is the only way to go, but if you are still a bit unsure of what this whole new wave is about, perhaps you should tune into www.ebizradio.com on at 9h00 on the 4th May 2012 and here what some key industry specialists have to say about the trends we are seeing globally and how we embrace them in SA – More on  the next Digibate.
